A_Place Gallery is pleased to present Bird i'th Hand, a group exhibition featuring Jennifer Aldred, Clive Hodgson, Graham Lister and Daniel Pettitt.

Bird i’th Hand brings together 4 artists working primarily with abstraction as a means to grasp at the barely graspable in visual language. Each artist working with gesture, touch, repetition, decoration or words (both legible and illegible) to hint at meanings which exist on the barest periphery of understanding. Brought together under the title Bird i’th Hand, a North West of England colloquial rendering of the phrase “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush” (and the name of some pubs in the Bolton area), the exhibition presents works that also probe at questions of artistic authenticity and identity, the ‘hand’ of the artist, the sign, the signature, and the tension between the impulse to reach beyond what we have or to trust in the value of what we already hold.
